Hensoldt has secured a contract worth around €10 million to supply spare parts for optronic equipment used on the Canadian Armed Forces’ Leopard 2 main battle tanks. The German sensor specialist said the order supports the sustainment of key sighting and observation systems on Canada’s tank fleet.

The company supplies equipment described as the “eyes” of Leopard 2 tanks for the international Leopard user group, known as LEOBEN. These systems include the PERI R17 A3 commander’s periscope, ATTICA GL thermal imaging device, SPECTUS driver’s sight system, FERO Z 18 rifle scope and EMES OPO rangefinder.

Hensoldt said it will also expand its service footprint for land and naval systems to provide further support to customers in Canada. The company said the effort forms part of its broader sustainment activities.

“As part of our sustainment programme, Hensoldt is working to improve system availability through accelerated maintenance,” said Marco Liebscher, Head of Product Services Optronics.

“Our aim is to further reduce downtime and thus maintain operational readiness,” Liebscher added.
