Israel Aerospace Industries announced it has signed a contract to supply the Royal Thai Air Force with the Barak MX air defence system, marking a new phase in cooperation between the two countries. The system will expand Thailand’s protection against Tactical Ballistic Missiles and Air Breathing Targets, with coverage reaching up to 150 kilometres.

IAI President and CEO, Boaz Levy, said, “This contract award represents a significant milestone for IAI in East Asia, with Thailand being a key and influential country in the region.” He added, “The Barak MX air defense system will provide Thailand with its first-ever medium-range air defense capability, offering comprehensive protection against both ballistic and aerial threats.”

Levy noted the system met Thailand’s operational demands, saying, “The Barak MX was selected after successfully meeting and exceeding the stringent requirements of the Thai Air Force, offering advanced network-centric capabilities and interoperability with local command-and-control systems.” He concluded, “We are proud to deepen our collaboration and stand alongside Thailand, as it enhances its defense architecture with proven, next-generation capabilities.”

The Barak MX package includes a Command and Control unit, Multi-Mission Radar, launchers, surface-to-air missiles, a missile reloading vehicle and a logistic support vehicle. All components are mounted on high-mobility platforms to allow rapid deployment and fast operational readiness.

IAI has partnered with Thai Aviation Industries to ensure local maintenance support and additional services as part of the delivery. The company states the Barak MX system, already chosen by several countries, offers a multi-layered and net-centric solution that enables flexible engagement choices and improved cost efficiency through what it describes as the “Economy of Battle.”
