With a partnership spanning over 30 years, KNDS France has played a crucial role in the UAE’s defence capabilities since the acquisition of 436 Leclerc tanks. In collaboration with EDGE Group and BHE, the company is working on a modernisation programme to enhance the tank’s performance to unprecedented levels.
The company is also supporting the UAE’s ambition to develop a sovereign defence industry through its Abu Dhabi-based subsidiary, KNDS Emirates. This entity fosters collaboration with the UAE Ministry of Defence and local industry players, ensuring the long-term development of co-production and localisation efforts.
Among the showcased technologies, the RAPIDFire turret stands out as an advanced self-defence system integrating a 40mm CT40 gun with artificial intelligence. This turret, developed in partnership with Thales and CTAI, provides protection against modern aerial and surface threats, including drones and missiles, within a 4 km range.
A successful demonstration of the RAPIDFire system was conducted in January 2024 during the deployment of a newly equipped French Navy vessel in the UAE. The tests, which involved live-fire exercises against floating targets, confirmed the system’s effectiveness and generated significant interest from defence stakeholders.
KNDS France is also presenting the latest adaptations of its 40mm telescoped ammunition technology, integrated into the VBCI armoured vehicle. A new version, the VBCI T40, now features a remotely operated turret and an AKERON MP missile pod, enhancing its ability to counter both airborne and ground threats.
Additionally, the company is showcasing the battle-proven VBCI T25, a vehicle deployed by the French Army in major combat zones since 2010. This model, equipped with a 25mm M811 autocannon and close-protection systems, offers a balance of firepower and mobility suited for modern warfare.
Another key highlight is the CAESAR 6×6 Mk1 howitzer, known for its reliability, rapid deployment, and effectiveness in high-intensity conflicts. Currently used by 12 armed forces, the CAESAR system has become NATO’s reference artillery platform, demonstrating its value in both conventional and asymmetric warfare.
