This collaboration brings together two leading aerospace and defence companies to enhance the training capabilities for MQ-9B operators. It builds on a long-standing partnership between GA-ASI and CAE, reinforcing their commitment to advancing pilot training for unmanned aircraft systems.
CAE, a globally recognised leader in synthetic training for RPAS, will integrate its latest visualisation technology into the MQ-9B SkyGuardian Mission Trainers. The system will employ the CAE Prodigy Image Generator, which uses a state-of-the-art gaming engine to provide a highly realistic flight simulation experience.
The advanced training platform will feature immersive high-fidelity graphics and physics-based simulations, improving the realism and effectiveness of operator training. This technology ensures that personnel are fully prepared to operate the MQ-9B with precision and efficiency.
The MQ-9B is one of the most advanced RPAS platforms, offering long endurance, extended range, and autonomous take-off and landing capabilities via satellite control. It is designed to operate in both segregated and unsegregated airspace using a Detect and Avoid system developed by GA-ASI.
The MQ-9B family includes the SkyGuardian and SeaGuardian variants, as well as the Protector RG Mk1, which is currently being delivered to the UK’s Royal Air Force. The system is already in service with multiple international operators, including Belgium, Canada, Poland, Japan, Taiwan, India, and the U.S. Air Force Special Operations Command.
GA-ASI has stated that the new mission trainers will be particularly beneficial for Canada, which has recently selected the MQ-9B SkyGuardian. The partnership with CAE is part of GA-ASI’s Team SkyGuardian Canada initiative, which aims to strengthen collaboration with Canadian businesses.
Jaime Walters, Vice President of International Strategic Development at GA-ASI, emphasised that the partnership will enhance operational readiness and effectiveness for MQ-9B operators worldwide. He highlighted CAE’s expertise in training solutions as key to ensuring personnel are well-prepared for missions.
Marc-Olivier Sabourin, Division President of CAE Defense & Security International, affirmed the company’s commitment to providing world-class training for MQ-9B operators. He noted that CAE’s experience in simulation technology positions it as a leader in RPAS training and operational readiness.
