As part of the F-35’s Block 4 upgrade, the AGM-158 strike systems, including the Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile (JASSM) and LRASM, are being integrated for external carriage. This development expands the aircraft’s mission flexibility, providing greater range and firepower against heavily defended targets.
Jon Hill, vice president and general manager of Air Dominance and Strike Weapons at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control, highlighted the strategic importance of these integrations. He stated that the AGM-158 strike systems would enhance the aircraft’s ability to engage critical threats with increased reach and lethality.
Chauncey McIntosh, vice president and general manager of the F-35 programme at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, emphasised the long-term significance of the upgrade. He noted that these enhancements ensure the F-35 remains a dominant force in aerial warfare for years to come.
With over 20 years of experience in precision strike missile technology, Lockheed Martin is leveraging the F-35’s advanced capabilities alongside JASSM and LRASM to strengthen combat effectiveness.
