The model is the 11th release in Jeep’s year-long Twelve 4 Twelve series. Based on the Wrangler Rubicon, it combines current off-road hardware with colours and design details drawn from the original CJ-2A.
“The original CJ-2A represents a defining chapter in Jeep brand history,” said Branden Coté, Jeep brand CEO. “It is the moment the Jeep vehicle found a new purpose in communities across America.”
Willys-Overland introduced the CJ-2A in July 1945 after adapting the military Willys MB for civilian customers. Built in Toledo, Ohio, it brought Jeep vehicles into agriculture, industry and other civilian roles.
The CJ-2A added a tailgate and rear power take-off, along with larger headlights and the now-established seven-slot grille. Its post-war colour combinations included Harvest Tan with Sunset Red wheels and Pasture Green with Autumn Yellow wheels.
The new JL-2A reflects that design history through Gobi paint on the two-door version and ’41 on the four-door model. Bright White, Sting Gray, Ghost and Joose will also be offered.
Exclusive 17-inch retro wheels finished in Joose take their cue from the CJ-2A’s Sunset Red wheels. They are paired with standard 33-inch BFGoodrich KO2 all-terrain tyres and orange tow hooks at the front and rear.
Body-coloured wheel arches and a three-piece hardtop create a uniform exterior finish. Dark Metallic Grey accents update the seven-slot grille without changing its established form.
Inside, Jeep has introduced a Wrangler-first combination of Nappa Heritage Tan and Bison Brown. Desert Orange stitching provides a visual link to the Joose-painted wheels.
Heritage details include a satin-chrome Willys-Overland gear-selector medallion and graphics on the climate-control vents. A plaque on the rear swing gate recreates CJ-2A dashboard data-plate artwork depicting the original vehicle’s agricultural and industrial work.
The JL-2A comes with the Convenience Group, including remote start, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror and a universal garage-door opener. A front TrailCam with an integrated washer is also standard.
The $4,995 package costs $115 more than a similarly equipped Wrangler Rubicon, according to Jeep. The special edition will be offered in both two-door and four-door configurations.
