MBDA has signed an agreement with the Indian Air Force to develop a local capability for the maintenance, repair and mid-life overhaul of MICA missiles. The new facility is intended to strengthen India’s domestic defence sustainment infrastructure and improve operational readiness.

Under the agreement, the maintenance, repair and overhaul facility will be established, operated and maintained by the Indian Air Force. MBDA will provide industrial machinery, tools, technical data packages, training and support services for the programme.

The company said the project is intended to support India’s long-term technical expertise and strategic autonomy in defence. MBDA added that the initiative aligns with the principles of the Atmanirbhar Bharat programme launched by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2020.

According to MBDA, the facility will improve turnaround times for missile support and maintenance activities. The site is expected to provide support for MICA missiles throughout their operational service life.

The company said the programme would enhance the operational capability and readiness of the Indian Armed Forces. MBDA also stated that the agreement reflects its broader partnership strategy with India.

MBDA noted that its cooperation with the Indian Air Force dates back more than 50 years. Throughout that period, the Indian Air Force has used MBDA missile systems across several aircraft platforms.

The European missile manufacturer said its current priorities in India include supplying advanced missile technologies and supporting the Make in India initiative. MBDA stated that it remains committed to supporting India’s industrial sovereignty and defence capabilities.

The company added that operational capability and sovereignty remain key priorities for the Indian Air Force. MBDA said the new agreement reflects its long-standing commitment to local industrial participation and defence cooperation with India.
