The memorandum, undersigned by both MBDA Deutschland and UDI, is a step towards future cooperation in air defence and counter-unmanned aerial systems(C-UAS) solutions. UDI announced that the collaboration would span research and development, production, and investment opportunities.
Herman Smetanin, the CEO of UDI, expressed that this cooperation with global defence conglomerates not only broadens Ukraine’s existing capabilities on the battlefield but also lays a solid foundation for the further development of Ukraine’s defence industry and promotes its integration with NATO’s defence sector.
Thomas Gottschild, Managing Director of MBDA Deutschland, emphasized the significance of the agreement, stating, “This agreement marks an important milestone in the relations between our countries’ defence industries. I look forward to working with Ukroboronprom, a leading player in the European defence industry.”
MBDA, which is co-owned by aerospace giants Airbus, BAE Systems, and Leonardo, is renowned for developing and manufacturing missile and air defence systems that meet the current and future needs of all military branches. In 2022, MBDA reported a revenue of €4.2 billion and currently offers 45 missile systems and countermeasure products already in operational use, with an additional 15 in development.
