Northrop Grumman: Australia’s MQ-4C Triton drone programme advances towards delivery

By Defence Industry Europe

Northrop Grumman has successfully completed testing of Australia’s third MQ-4C Triton drone at its facility in Palmdale, California. The aircraft is now being prepared for transportation to Naval Air Station Patuxent River in Maryland, where it will undergo final calibration testing alongside Australia’s second Triton.

The MQ-4C Triton is a high-altitude, long-endurance uncrewed aircraft designed for maritime intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and targeting operations. This rigorous testing process marks a key milestone before the aircraft are delivered to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) later this year.

Australia’s Triton fleet is being developed in collaboration with Northrop Grumman and the U.S. Navy to enhance its maritime surveillance capabilities. Once operational, these advanced drones will provide real-time intelligence to support national security and regional stability efforts.

The RAAF is integrating the MQ-4C Triton into its broader surveillance and reconnaissance network to complement manned aircraft such as the P-8A Poseidon. This combination is expected to strengthen Australia’s ability to monitor vast maritime regions with improved efficiency and endurance.
