U.S. forces hit approximately 140 Iranian military targets with precision munitions, according to CENTCOM. The munitions were launched by land- and sea-based fighter aircraft, drones and naval vessels.
CENTCOM said the targets included Iranian missile and drone sites, naval capabilities, ammunition storage facilities, communication networks and coastal surveillance locations. The command said the strikes were intended to hold Iranian forces accountable for attacks on commercial shipping.
Across three nights of strikes this week, CENTCOM said it has struck more than 300 targets at the direction of the Commander in Chief. The command said the goal was to degrade Iran’s ability to attack civilian mariners and commercial vessels freely transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
CENTCOM said commercial vessel transits through the vital international maritime corridor are continuing. Since early May, U.S. forces have helped facilitate the successful transit of more than 800 commercial vessels through the strait.
The command said those transits also included 400 million barrels of crude oil moving through the Strait of Hormuz. CENTCOM framed the operations as part of its effort to protect civilian mariners and commercial shipping in the waterway.
