The amendment adds 25,000 MIKRON Night Vision Goggle sets to Germany’s inventory. Since the programme began in 2021, over 30,000 MIKRON NVG sets, along with essential accessories and in-service support, have been delivered to the two countries, making it one of Europe’s largest cooperative defence procurement initiatives in the field.
OCCAR-EA Director Joachim Sucker and representatives from Germany highlighted the programme’s success during the signing ceremony. Germany’s representative praised OCCAR’s ability to meet urgent requirements efficiently in a multinational context and noted the swift mobilisation of the consortium, with the first substantial batch of the additional order expected before the end of 2024.
The Belgian-German Night Vision Capability Programme is a cornerstone of European defence cooperation. It equips dismounted troops and military vehicle drivers with advanced night vision technology, enhancing interoperability and reducing logistical demands in operational settings.
The MIKRON NVG is a lightweight, dual-tube binocular system that can be used in multiple configurations, including helmet-mounted, head-mounted, or hand-held. It features an integrated infrared illuminator and flexible configuration options, such as independent monocular flipping. The system operates on a single AA battery, with the option of a remote battery pack for extended use.
