Pistorius: deliveries of Leopard 1 tanks to Ukraine will start in the middle of the year

Deliveries of 80 Leopard 1 main battle tanks to Ukraine will start in mid-year. Tanks will be transferred to Ukraine gradually, the German Minister of Defence Boris Pistorius said in an interview with the Spanish newspaper “La Vanguardia”.




Boris Pistorius also said that over 100 Ukrainian soldiers have started training on Leopard 1 main battle tanks.

Earlier, Pistorius told the German newspaper “Die Welt” that NATO countries plan to jointly send a total of four battalions of Leopard 1 tanks to Ukraine.

German Minister of Defence stressed that the German Federal Government has already supplied the Armed Forces of Ukraine with 18 Leopard 2A6 tanks. They are currently the most modern main battle tanks in the Ukrainian army.
