Red Cat secures new orders for Edge 130 drones from U.S. Government

By Defence Industry Europe

American drone technology company Red Cat Holdings, Inc. has announced new orders worth $518,000 for its Edge 130 drones from the Army National Guard and another U.S. Government Agency (OGA). The orders, comprising 12 units of the Edge 130, highlight Red Cat’s growing role in providing advanced unmanned systems for defence and security applications.

The Edge 130, a military-grade tricopter with vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) capabilities, excels in reconnaissance, surveillance, and precision strike missions. Equipped with AI-driven surveillance features and offering over 60 minutes of flight time, it is designed for mission-critical environments, including maritime operations and littoral zones.

The orders reflect the success of Red Cat’s strategic acquisition of FlightWave in September 2024. This acquisition added FlightWave’s flagship Edge 130 Blue to Red Cat’s portfolio, expanding its suite of low-cost, portable unmanned systems optimised for military and government use.

Jeff Thompson, CEO of Red Cat, emphasised the significance of the deal: “These new orders further validate the performance and unique capabilities of the Edge 130 as part of our Family of Systems. We remain committed to providing U.S. government agencies with cutting-edge technology that enhances their mission success.”

The Edge 130 Blue can be assembled and hand-launched within a minute, making it ideal for rapid deployment by a single operator. Weighing just 1.2kg, it offers unmatched portability and endurance, setting it apart from other drones certified under the Blue UAS programme.
