The MoU focuses on leveraging technological and industrial synergies to develop advanced solutions for tracked vehicle platforms. This partnership seeks to align efforts in key Italian defence programmes, such as Main Battle Tanks (MBT) and Armoured Infantry Combat Systems (AICS), benefiting end-users through a unified strategic vision.
“RENK and Leonardo are joining forces to contribute to the realisation of ambitious European projects. Both companies must act as a catalyst to bring forces together at the European level, creating a common strategic vision,” said Susanne Wiegand, CEO of RENK Group AG. She emphasised the importance of reducing fragmentation in the defence sector through collaborative frameworks.
The collaboration will be anchored at the former OTO Melara industrial site in La Spezia, where both companies will coordinate efforts to support Italian defence initiatives. The partnership also aims to bolster European defence strategies by addressing the challenges of a dynamic geopolitical environment and advancing technological innovation in tracked vehicle platforms.
Pier Federico Bisconti, Chairman of RENK Italia Srl, highlighted the significance of the agreement, stating, “We consider the constitution of RENK Italia Srl and this agreement with Leonardo both a fundamental contribution to the creation of an important European critical mass within the defence context.”
