Rheinmetall to deliver 20 more Marder infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine

By Defence Industry Europe

In December 2024, Rheinmetall, the Düsseldorf-based technology group, received an order to supply Ukraine with an additional 20 Marder 1A3 infantry fighting vehicles. Delivery of these combat vehicles is scheduled for the first half of 2025, the company said in a press release.

The deal, financed by Germany, is valued in the mid-double-digit million euro range. With this latest order, Rheinmetall continues to play a significant role in strengthening Ukraine’s defence capabilities.

The Marder 1A3 version features advanced enhancements, including an additional laser rangefinder for precise and efficient target engagement. This upgrade ensures improved combat performance on the battlefield.

Rheinmetall first delivered 20 Marder 1A3 vehicles in March 2023, following orders from the German government. Since then, further deliveries in double figures have been carried out to support Ukraine’s armed forces.

Overhauling of the Marder vehicles began in spring 2022, when Rheinmetall initiated repairs from its company stock at its own expense. The combat vehicles are restored and prepared for immediate deployment at the company’s facilities in Unterlüß and Kassel.

To date, Rheinmetall has supplied Ukraine with hundreds of Marder infantry fighting vehicles, reflecting ongoing German support for Ukraine’s defence efforts. The continued deliveries underline Rheinmetall’s commitment to delivering robust military solutions amid ongoing conflict.
