The deal, valued at EUR 75.2 million, will be partially funded through the US Foreign Military Financing (FMF) programme under the bilateral defence cooperation agreement between Greece and the US. Greece will contribute EUR 25 million, representing one-third of the total cost, while the remaining funding will come from the FMF programme.
The package includes training simulators, operational modules, and support programmes. The drones will primarily serve Greece’s special operations forces and the army. Within the army, they will be used mainly for training purposes.
The Switchblade 300, weighing just 2.5 kg, is compact enough to be carried in a backpack. It can operate at altitudes of up to 4.5 km and strike targets with precision up to 10 km away, with a flight duration of 20 minutes in the Block 20 variant.
The heavier Switchblade 600, designed for anti-armour operations, features a 15 kg warhead and a range exceeding 40 km. This drone is capable of autonomously returning to its launch point if no target is identified.
