The contract includes an initial funding tranche of $61.5 million, fully financed by export customers. Deliveries of the missiles, in undisclosed quantities, are scheduled to be completed by April 2030.
The missiles will be supplied to a group of international partners that includes Hungary, Kuwait, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway and Taiwan. The U.S. government is acting as an intermediary in the transaction through the Foreign Military Sales process.
The AMRAAM-ER is a variant of the AIM-120 missile family designed specifically for use with NASAMS. It combines the guidance section and warhead of the AIM-120C-8 AMRAAM with a new rocket motor and control system derived from the RIM-162 ESSM program.
These modifications have significantly increased the missile’s range, which is estimated to exceed 60 kilometers. The enhanced performance is intended to improve the effectiveness of ground-based air defense systems against a range of aerial threats.
Testing of the AMRAAM-ER variant was completed in early 2024. Since then, the missile has been delivered to customers through low-rate initial production as additional orders are placed.
The new contract marks a transition to full-rate production as demand for the system continues to grow. Officials said the agreement reflects increasing international interest in NASAMS and its associated missile capabilities.
