American defence giant RTX has signed a contract for an unspecified number of BGM-71 TOW 2B anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs). This agreement was announced by the United States Department of Defense on August 15.

According to the Pentagon, the contract is valued at USD 322.5 million and is expected to be concluded by September 2026.

BGM-71 TOW 2B anti-tank missiles to be produced by RTX under this contract will be delivered to the United States Army.

According to sources, the Pentagon awarded this order to RTX to replenish the U.S. Army’s stocks of TOW anti-tank missiles. As it was announced, Washington has transferred more than 7,000 of various types of TOW missiles to Ukraine after February 24, 2022.

According to reports by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the TOW family of missiles – despite the fact that this weapon does not belong to the group of the most modern anti-tank missiles – achieved high efficiency against tanks and armored vehicles of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation during the war in Ukraine.
