Swedish defence company Saab has signed a contract with Dutch shipbuilder Damen Naval to supply the combat system for the Colombian Navy’s new Plataforma Estratégica de Superficie (PES) frigate. The agreement includes advanced radar, sensor, and fire control systems, reinforcing Saab’s presence in international naval defence.

As part of the contract, Saab will deliver its 9LV Combat Management System and 9LV Fire Control System, along with the Ceros 200 radar and optronic tracking fire control director. Additional systems include the EOS 500 electro-optical fire control director and Sea Giraffe 4A radars, enhancing the frigate’s operational capabilities.

Saab’s Senior Vice President and Head of Business Area Surveillance, Carl-Johan Bergholm, expressed his appreciation for the partnership, highlighting the collaboration with Damen Naval as a significant step in naval defence. This marks the first time Saab and Damen Naval have worked together on a naval project.

The PES frigate will be constructed by Colombian shipbuilder COTECMAR in Cartagena, with Damen Naval providing engineering, technical support, and shipbuilding materials. Based on the Damen Naval SIGMA 10514 design, the vessel is scheduled for delivery in 2030, marking a key milestone for Colombia’s naval modernisation.
