Serbian defence industry advances drone weapon systems development

By Defence Industry Europe

The Serbian defence company Yugoimport-SDPR has announced significant progress in the development of drone weapon systems, reflecting global trends in modern armament technology. The company has focused its efforts on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), specifically attack drones and projectile drones, along with specialised ammunition designed for these systems.

The development of projectile drones combines shaped charge and fragmentation warheads with first-person view (FPV) drones and fixed-wing UAVs, also known as loitering munitions. These innovations enhance the versatility of drones in combat scenarios, providing advanced capabilities for precision strikes.

Yugoimport has also transformed grenade launcher ammunition for use with bomber drones in standard calibres of 60 mm, 81/82 mm, and 120 mm. By integrating impact and proximity fuzes, both mechanical and electronic, these drones now deliver greater reliability and accuracy. Additionally, the company has introduced specialised thermobaric explosives in the 120 mm calibre, offering increased destructive power.

In line with these advancements, new drone ammunition is being developed using modified 40 mm grenade launcher rounds. These efforts aim to extend the operational flexibility of lightweight UAVs in the field.

Yugoimport is also working on integrating anti-tank rocket launchers and machine guns into attack drones, further expanding their applications in modern warfare. This comprehensive approach underscores the Serbian defence industry’s commitment to innovation and its ability to adapt to emerging trends in military technology.
