Senop Oy (a subsidiary of Patria Group) has received a purchase order from the Finnish Defence Forces Logistic Command for deliveries of laser sights and image intensifiers. The order is significant and is a continuation of the procurement contracts made in 2020, 2021 and 2022. With this acquisition the Finnish Defence Forces further develops soldiers’ capability to fight effectively 24/7 in demanding environments. The order value is €13 M excluding VAT and delivery of the new systems is scheduled for the years 2023 and 2024.

The Finnish Defence Forces will procure 57 mm munitions for use on the navy’s vessels. The procurement is coordinated with Sweden so that the Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command and the Swedish FMV (Försvarets Materielverk) purchase the same materiel at the same time, thus obtaining compatible munitions for the Finnish and Swedish navies at a lower price.

Finland and Sweden’s accession to NATO is occurring at an accelerated pace. In January 2022, neither government was considering NATO membership; in May 2022, they moved decisively into the application process. In response, NATO member states have rush processed their membership, with most NATO countries ratifying Accession Protocols. In November 2022, they are a mere two ratifications short of membership. Both Finland and Sweden are sending a strong message to Allies and Russia by joining NATO without preconditions as already active contributors and security providers within the Alliance. For its part, NATO would not only gain two new member states but also a new regional subgroup of Nordic countries that have their own perspectives and strategic cultures. Moreover, Finland and Sweden will bring a model for bilateral defence cooperation.

Bittium has received a purchase order from the Finnish Defence Forces for tactical Bittium Tough SDR handheld and vehicular radios. The value of the purchase order is approximately EUR 4,3 million (excl. VAT). This purchase is the first optional additional purchase related to the purchase agreement signed in December 2018. The radio deliveries related to this purchase order will begin during the year 2022.

Patria’s new 6x6 armoured troop-carrying vehicles were deployed with the Latvian infantry on the multinational Exercise Arrow 22, hosted by Finland, during the first two weeks of May. The Latvian vehicles, just 6 months old, were “fighting“ alongside allied Finnish, American, British, and Estonian troops in the Niinisalo training area.
