These advanced systems are designed to withstand adversarial electronic warfare, providing dependable communication from ground operations to aerial tiers. L3Harris emphasises the importance of secure, mobile communications, which enable effective Combined Joint All-Domain Command and Control (CJADC2).
The award covers the production of L3Harris’s AN/PRC-158 and AN/PRC-163 radios, which offer modern cryptographic compliance and enhanced security features. These systems can switch between Secure But Unclassified – Encrypted (SBU-E) and high-assurance encryption, meeting stringent NSA standards for secure communications.
This latest contract follows similar orders in 2023 totalling $247 million, showcasing the Army’s trust in L3Harris’s technology. The company has also been tapped to provide networking radios for platforms like the MQ-1C Gray Eagle unmanned aircraft and CH-47 Chinook helicopters.
Sam Mehta, President of Communication Systems at L3Harris, highlighted the systems’ battlefield effectiveness, stating they are essential for maintaining operational tempo and countering emerging threats. These resilient communication solutions are expected to enhance commanders’ flexibility and operational capabilities significantly.
