General Randy George, Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army, recently toured the Radford and Holston Army Ammunition Plants, critical facilities for supporting national and allied security. Located in Virginia and Tennessee, these Government-Owned, Contractor-Operated sites play a vital role under the U.S. Army’s Joint Munitions Command.

The plants, managed by BAE Systems Ordnance Systems Inc. (OSI), showcased their ongoing contributions to meet the Army’s current and future needs. John Swift, Vice President and General Manager for BAE Systems OSI, expressed pride in the workforce, highlighting their commitment to delivering the Army’s vision.

At the Radford facility, General George engaged with staff to discuss its role as a core strategic asset for Army artillery demands. He praised the team for their success in producing legacy and next-generation propellants, which are vital for extended-range artillery, and recognised the longstanding family traditions within the workforce.

The Holston facility visit included a focus on its modernisation efforts and its ability to deliver mission-critical products. General George commended the advancements in production capabilities and emphasised the importance of innovation to meet evolving military requirements.

“The people are what make the difference,” said General George, acknowledging the dedication of those working at Radford and Holston. Their efforts ensure U.S. Army formations are equipped with the necessary ammunition when called upon.

BAE Systems OSI has managed the Radford site since 2012 and recently secured a contract to continue operations at Holston through 2035, reinforcing its longstanding partnership with the U.S. Army.
