Redwire acquires drone maker Edge Autonomy in USD 925 million deal

By Defence Industry Europe

Redwire Corporation, a leading player in the space infrastructure sector, has announced its acquisition of Edge Autonomy, a prominent provider of uncrewed airborne systems (UAS) technology. The transaction, valued at $925 million, will be settled with $150 million in cash and $775 million in Redwire common stock, based on a 30-day volume-weighted average trading price.

This acquisition is expected to position Redwire as a global leader in multi-domain autonomous technology, integrating combat-proven autonomous airborne platforms with its existing space capabilities. Upon completion, the deal is forecast to enhance Redwire’s revenue, Adjusted EBITDA, and Free Cash Flow, with projected combined revenues for 2025 ranging between $535 million and $605 million.

Formed in 2021 through a merger, Edge Autonomy has over 30 years of experience in developing uncrewed systems for defence and intelligence purposes. Its flagship UAS products, including the Stalker and Penguin series, are optimised for long-range reconnaissance and rapid deployment. The company boasts a strong track record with the U.S. Department of Defense and allied governments, underlining its critical role in modern military operations.

Redwire’s expansion reflects its commitment to scaling national security space operations. Recent additions to its portfolio include AI-enabled, autonomous spacecraft for various orbital missions, and innovative “orbital drones” bridging airborne and space technologies. The integration of Edge Autonomy’s UAS technologies will further enhance Redwire’s ability to provide comprehensive, multi-domain solutions.

Peter Cannito, Chairman and CEO of Redwire, highlighted the strategic importance of the acquisition. “This merger positions Redwire at the forefront of defence technology trends, creating a unified network of autonomous, collaborative systems for operations spanning Earth to the Moon and beyond.”

Edge Autonomy’s global workforce of 600 employees and its extensive manufacturing facilities across the U.S. and Europe will significantly bolster Redwire’s capabilities. Steve Adlich, CEO of Edge Autonomy, emphasised the synergy between the two companies, stating, “This partnership will unlock growth opportunities and drive innovation to meet evolving customer needs.”
