The files are being released on a rolling basis at war.gov/UFO following President Donald Trump’s pledge to declassify certain government records. The material includes documents related to unidentified anomalous phenomena, also known as UAPs.
The first batch included photos and reports dating back decades, as well as archival images, military video and documents connected to NASA’s Apollo 12, Apollo 17 and Gemini 7 missions. During those missions, astronauts reported unusual sightings.
The latest material includes written statements about an unidentified object incident report by the Department of Energy. It also includes a firsthand witness account from a U.S. intelligence official and a CIA information report about a sighting in the Soviet Union in 1973.
Another file contains 116 pages of documentation from the Armed Forces Special Weapons Program and the U.S. Air Force. The material relates to a series of sightings and investigations in Sandia, New Mexico, from 1948 to 1950.
The Armed Forces Special Weapons Program was the direct post-World War II successor to the Manhattan Project. The documents add to the historical record of U.S. government investigations into unexplained aerial observations.
One audio file includes the commander and two pilots of the Apollo 12 mission describing light flashes they observed while trying to sleep in the dark. The medical debriefing tape was recorded in Texas on Dec. 31, 1969.
Other audio from Mercury-Atlas missions includes astronauts describing small particles they could not identify. The particles were described as “light shavings.”
One video appears to show three objects moving through the water before a fourth object quickly enters and exits the frame. Another video tracks a white object that appears to move quickly in a straight line, veer left, change direction suddenly and leave the field of view.
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, Republican of Florida, said the second release includes more than 40 videos requested by lawmakers. The batch includes a video that Luna and former Rep. Matt Gaetz, also a Florida Republican, went to Eglin Air Force Base to request in person in 2023.
That video includes infrared sensor footage of an unusual object. The All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office previously said the object was a commercial lighting balloon.
Another video shows a UAP that was shot down near Lake Huron on the Canadian border. That incident followed the discovery of a Chinese spy balloon over the United States.
Other videos include unusually sharp images and a UAP shape not previously seen in released footage. One video shows the United States tracking a foreign submarine as a UAP becomes visible in the frame.
