The Royal Thai Air Force has ordered two Airbus C295 tactical transport aircraft to strengthen Thailand’s defence capabilities. The aircraft will be operated by the 46th Wing Division from Phitsanulok air base.

Thailand already operates three C295 aircraft with the Royal Thai Army. Those aircraft have been used for cargo and troop transport missions since 2016.

The two new aircraft will be assembled at Airbus Defence and Space facilities in Seville, Spain. The first delivery is scheduled for the first half of 2029.

In transport configuration, the C295 can carry 70 troops or 49 paratroopers. It can also take off and land on unprepared runways, perform cargo and paratrooper drops, and conduct medical evacuation missions.

Airbus said it contributes to Thailand’s defence industry through a partnership with Thai Aviation Industries. The cooperation supports maintenance of the C295 fleet through advanced training.

Thailand is one of seven countries in the Asia-Pacific region operating the C295. Airbus said the aircraft is the global leader in its segment, with an 85% market share.

The C295 has received 333 orders from 39 countries across four continents. Airbus said the global C295 fleet has accumulated 750,000 flight hours to date.
