The U.S. Navy’s guided-missile cruiser USS Cape St. George (CG 71) sailed past the Golden Gate Bridge on October 4, 2026, arriving for San Francisco Fleet Week. The Ticonderoga-class ship joins the event’s 45th iteration, which gives Bay Area residents a firsthand look at the maritime services.

Sailors, Marines and Coast Guard personnel will display their equipment and capabilities during the event. They will also take part in community service activities across the Bay Area.

Cape St. George was commissioned on June 12, 1993. Its name commemorates the battle fought on November 25, 1943, off New Ireland in the Bismarck Archipelago in the South Pacific.

U.S. Navy guided-missile cruisers carry out air warfare, undersea warfare, naval surface fire support and surface warfare missions. They can support carrier strike groups and amphibious forces or operate independently.

San Francisco Fleet Week has brought military and civilian communities together since 1981. Its public program includes ship tours, concerts, military and public safety exhibits, and science, technology, engineering and mathematics activities.

The waterfront events center on the San Francisco Fleet Week Air Show presented by United and Fleet Fest at Fisherman’s Wharf. The air show takes place over San Francisco Bay, with spectators gathering at Marina Green Park.

The U.S. Navy Blue Angels headline the air show, which also features a United Airlines Boeing 777. Organizers say it is the only U.S. air show to include a fully choreographed commercial airline performance.

Fleet Fest takes place in front of the Sky Star Wheel at Fisherman’s Wharf. Visitors can attend live music performances, visit local food vendors and take part in ship tours and interactive exhibits.

The exhibits focus on military readiness, STEM education and community emergency response. First responder agencies and nongovernmental organizations demonstrate disaster preparedness, showcase technologies and offer recruitment opportunities.

The nonprofit San Francisco Fleet Week Association produces and manages the event. It aims to honor service members and strengthen ties between the military and civilian communities through public engagement and education.

Organizers say more than one million people attend Fleet Week each year, describing it as California’s largest annual civic event. They also say the gathering supports local businesses and the regional tourism economy.
