DELTA currently provides access to regularly refreshed data from several satellite providers. In July 2026 alone, Ukrainian forces added more than 1,700 orthophotos, which are precise digital terrain images standardised to a common coordinate system and scale.
Satellite imagery provides broad coverage of the whole of Ukraine, including temporarily occupied territories such as Crimea, as well as territory inside Russia. The data can be used to track changes on the ground, identify new objects and support planning over long distances.
Orthophotos are generated using reconnaissance drones and provide greater detail when units need to examine a specific area. They can reveal small changes and objects that may be difficult to distinguish in satellite imagery.
Used together, the different imagery sources allow military personnel to analyse terrain, identify new targets, assess strike results and plan movement. DELTA can also notify users when updated imagery becomes available for areas they have selected.
Those alerts allow units to identify changes in areas of interest and incorporate them into subsequent planning. The system is designed to keep operational users working with current geospatial information as conditions change.
DELTA also includes 3D terrain models that account for elevation and the height of objects. The models are already being used to plan routes for unmanned ground vehicles, where changes in terrain and elevation can directly affect movement.
The Ministry of Defence said the different data layers are intended to complement one another across the DELTA ecosystem. As units add newer orthophotos and 3D models, neighbouring formations can use the same updated information and incorporate terrain changes into their own planning.
DELTA users can also access detailed guidance on creating and uploading orthophotos themselves. The ministry said its next step is to scale up the effort and increase the volume of current geospatial data available directly through the system.
The Ministry of Defence also said DELTA’s AI assistant is now available to all users. The tool allows personnel to receive answers to common questions within the system interface without searching documentation or contacting support.
