Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence said the country’s first domestically developed guided aerial bomb has passed all required tests and is ready for combat deployment. The weapon was developed by a participant in the Brave1 defence technology initiative and supported by a grant during an early stage of development.

A guided aerial bomb is an air-launched munition equipped with guidance and aerodynamic control systems to improve targeting accuracy. According to the ministry, its main advantage over conventional aerial bombs is the ability to be released from dozens of kilometres outside the range of enemy air defences.

The ministry said Ukraine’s guided aerial bomb is not a copy of Western or Soviet-designed systems. It was developed by Ukrainian engineers over 17 months and incorporates a design shaped by the requirements of modern warfare.

Mykhailo Fedorov, Minister of Defence of Ukraine, said: “Ukraine is shifting from importing individual solutions to building indigenous high-tech weapons that systematically enhance the capabilities of the Defence Forces and provide technological superiority on the battlefield.”

“Ukraine’s guided aerial bomb will soon be striking enemy targets,” Fedorov added. “We are scaling solutions that extend strike range, enhance precision, and change the rules of modern warfare.”

The guided aerial bomb is fitted with a 250 kg warhead and is intended to strike fortifications, command posts and other targets dozens of kilometres behind enemy lines. The Ministry of Defence has already procured the first experimental batch of the weapon.

Ukrainian pilots are currently practising combat scenarios and expanding the system’s operational use. The ministry said the weapon’s combat debut is expected soon.

The Ministry of Defence described the guided aerial bomb as a significant domestic capability against enemy advances. “Ukraine’s guided aerial bomb is a powerful counter against enemy advances. We are building and scaling domestic high-tech solutions that can change the course of the war,” the ministry said.
