Weibel Scientific secures U.S. Army contract to develop new radar prototype

By Defence Industry Europe

Danish radar specialist Weibel Scientific has been awarded an Other Transaction Agreement (OTA) contract by the United States Army to develop a prototype C-Band range instrumentation radar. The contract, part of the Range Radar Replacement Program, was announced on 11th September 2024 and will involve creating a new radar system for the U.S. Army’s test ranges.

Weibel, known for its expertise in radar technology, will draw on over 40 years of experience in instrumentation hardware architecture and radar processing. The new radar, featuring Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) technology, will complement Weibel’s existing X-Band radar products.

“At Weibel, we see this as a natural next step in our continued commitment to our US customers. We have a large presence in X-Band instrumentation radars in the US, and by adding C-Band capabilities it allows for our growing customer base to have increased capability to meet their emerging operational test range radar requirements”, said Scott McGleish, President, and General Manager of Weibel North America.

The C-Band radar will support legacy transponder tracking and deliver improved data quality, providing a wider field of view for military test ranges facing frequency constraints.
