It is not only a question of better interlinking 27 different national systems in the EU, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said in La Celle-Saint-Cloud near Paris on Monday following a meeting with her counterparts from France and Poland – the so-called Weimar Triangle.
Against the backdrop of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, she added that in future common defence procurement and projects needed to be launched and deployment capabilities pooled to a greater extent than in the past.
“Today more than ever in its 30-year history, the Weimar Triangle can provide impetus and develop ideas for a strong, resilient Europe in turbulent times,” said Baerbock.
Germany, France and Poland also want to pursue a joint approach when it comes to combating Russian disinformation and cyberattacks. The three countries had agreed on a common mechanism to warn against Russian troll attacks, said France’s Foreign Minister Stéphane Séjourné. He added that the three countries had become victims of the same Russian destabilisation strategy and wanted to jointly defend themselves against it.
