U.S.-based defence technology company Mistral said the Hero-90 loitering munition has been selected to take part in the U.S. Army’s Low Altitude Stalking and Strike Ordnance programme. The LASSO initiative aims to rapidly provide Brigade Combat Teams with a man-portable, precision capability to engage armoured threats.

The programme is run by Program Executive Office Soldier and focuses on equipping dismounted units with a loitering munition that can deliver rapid and lethal effects against armour. LASSO is described as an urgent requirement to improve precision strike options at low altitude.

Developed by UVision, the Hero-90 offers extended-range, counter-armour precision from a highly portable system that can be launched by a single operator in under two minutes. It includes configurable warheads, mission abort and re-engage options, secure beyond-line-of-sight communications and top-attack capability.

Yoav Banai, Senior Vice President at Mistral Inc., said: “Selection of Hero-90 reflects the Army’s focus on portability, lethality, and MOSA-ready integration. Together with UVision, Mistral will support PdM Soldier Precision Targeting Devices with a solution that aligns to Common Control and integrates seamlessly across the BCT kill chain.”

Jarmin Blanton, Vice President of Business Development, Sales & Marketing at UVision, said: “The Army’s LASSO program is accelerating a transformational anti-armor capability for dismounted units. Hero-90 was designed precisely for this mission—fast to deploy, lethal at range, and adaptable through open architectures. We’re proud to collaborate with Mistral to deliver this overmatch to U.S. Soldiers.”

The HERO-90 is designed specifically for anti-armour missions and supports multiple warhead configurations, including high-explosive options. It features man-in-the-loop control, AI-assisted tracking, EO/IR sensors and integration with Common Control architectures to ensure precision in complex environments.
