Hanwha Aerospace has signed a contract with Norway’s Defence Material Agency to supply the Chunmoo multiple rocket launcher system to the Norwegian Armed Forces, marking its first major defence deal of 2026. The agreement, signed in Oslo on January 30, covers 16 launch vehicles, a package of precision-guided missiles and integrated logistics support, with a value of about $922 million.

The Chunmoo contract forms part of a wider Norwegian long-range fires programme budgeted at around $2 billion and is intended to strengthen Norway’s long-range precision strike capability in the Nordic region. Hanwha said the system will be fully interoperable with Norway’s existing defence infrastructure and optimised for Arctic conditions, including extreme cold and snow.

The deal follows nearly a decade of cooperation between Hanwha Aerospace and the Norwegian Armed Forces, beginning with a 2017 contract for K9 VIDAR self-propelled howitzers and K10 ammunition resupply vehicles. Hanwha said the on-time delivery and established logistics framework of the K9 fleet were a key technical reference in Norway’s selection of Chunmoo.

With Norway’s order, the user base of the Chunmoo system expands to include South Korea, Poland, Estonia and countries in the Middle East, a development the company said would improve interoperability and logistics synergies. Hanwha also said it plans to deepen cooperation with Norwegian industry through joint development or local testing initiatives.

“I believe Norway’s selection of the Chunmoo system is a result of the trust built up through the supply of K9 self-propelled howitzers,” Jae-il Son, president and chief executive of Hanwha Aerospace, said. “We remain committed to contributing to the long-term security of the Nordic region through close cooperation with Norway and further developing our role as a strategic security partner.”
