German Armed Forces select Raytheon ELCAN Specter DR weapon sights for soldier modernisation programme

Under the agreement, Raytheon ELCAN will work closely with Leonardo Germany to deliver a bespoke configuration tailored to German operational requirements. The solution includes an Aimpoint reflex sight mounted above the primary optic to enable rapid transitions between close-quarters and mid-range engagements.

The award comes amid rising demand for the Specter DR family across Europe. Since August 2024, Germany, Denmark, Lithuania, Spain, Italy and Finland have collectively ordered more than 100,000 Specter DR sights, with a combined value exceeding €193 million.

European soldier system programmes increasingly incorporate advanced and customised features. These include multiband laser protection, bespoke reticles, specialised mounts and nation-specific finishes, as well as the integration of a secondary reflex sight to support seamless engagement transitions.

With more than two decades of operational service and widespread adoption across NATO and allied militaries, the Specter DR remains widely used as a dual-role weapon sight.
