Argentina and United States sign agreement for delivery of Stryker armoured vehicles

By Defence Industry Europe

On 2 July, during a meeting in Washington between Argentina's Minister of Defence and the United States Secretary of Defense, an intergovernmental agreement (LOA) was signed, marking the beginning of Argentina’s purchase of Stryker wheeled armoured vehicles. This event implements a plan first approved in 2020, when the U.S. Department of State authorised Argentina’s request for the potential acquisition of 27 M1126 Stryker vehicles.

The initial agreement covers the delivery of eight brand-new Stryker M1126 vehicles, with shipments expected to begin either late this year or in early 2026. The purchase includes equipment and M2 heavy machine gun armaments, as originally valued at up to USD 100 million.

According to official statements, these vehicles will support the technical modernisation of one of the Argentine Army’s battalions. The Argentine Ministry of Defence noted that the contract includes an option for further purchases, though no specific figures or total contract value have been disclosed.

In recent years, Argentina has strengthened diplomatic relations with the United States through public administration reforms. This improved cooperation has accelerated defence modernisation efforts, including the acquisition of used Lockheed Martin F-16AM/BM Fighting Falcon fighter jets and the planned procurement of UH-60 Black Hawk multi-role helicopters.
