Argentina has signed an agreement with the United States to buy four used UH-60L Black Hawk helicopters for its army, the Argentine Defense Ministry said on Nov. 6.

The $28 million purchase includes spare parts and marks the first phase of the acquisition, the ministry said.

The two governments signed the Letter of Offer and Acceptance less than two months after the U.S. State Department approved the proposed sale.

Talks with Colombia’s Defense Ministry about its experience with the helicopters helped inform Argentina’s decision.

Argentina could buy more helicopters if the first four perform well in service and additional funding becomes available.

The initial request included simulators and Bambi Buckets for aerial firefighting, but the ministry did not specify whether the signed agreement covers either.

Argentina’s armed forces already have one Black Hawk, an S-70A acquired in 1994 for presidential transport.

The helicopter was withdrawn from presidential service in 2024 and remains with the Argentine Air Force, though its future role is unclear.
