Boeing secures USD 615 million contract for AN/ALQ-250 EPAWSS production and support

The United States Department of Defense has announced a new contract with Boeing to commence large-scale production of the AN/ALQ-250 EPAWSS (Eagle Passive Active Warning Survivability System). The agreement, valued at up to USD 615.7 million, is set to run through 2030, with an initial funding tranche of USD 262.2 million already allocated.

The AN/ALQ-250 EPAWSS was developed to enhance the electronic warfare capabilities of F-15 fighter aircraft. Initially designed for the F-15E Strike Eagle and its derivatives, the system is now also installed on the latest F-15EX Eagle II models and offered for export to international customers, including Japan’s F-15J and South Korea’s F-15K aircraft.

Boeing anticipates delivering at least 200 units of the system for the U.S. Air Force alone. This includes modernising 99 F-15E Strike Eagles and equipping newly built F-15EX fighters. The system is also believed to be part of Israel’s November 2024 order for 25 F-15IA Eagle aircraft, though this has not been officially confirmed.

The EPAWSS is designed to detect threats across the full electromagnetic spectrum and deploy countermeasures both automatically and efficiently. These include electronic countermeasures like jamming radio frequencies and physical countermeasures such as chaff and flares. The system features antennas strategically placed around the aircraft, including in elongated fairings at the base of the vertical stabilisers.
