The agreement sets conditions that must be met before Government Purpose Rights are granted. These include the delivery of 40 million ammunition cases featuring the technology.
Peak Alloy was first introduced to the commercial market in 2025 with the new 7mm Backcountry. Federal Ammunition describes it as a high-strength, proprietary steel alloy casing.
The case technology enables significantly higher chamber pressure than traditional brass. According to the company, it can support pressures in excess of 80,000 PSI, allowing higher velocities in smaller, lighter and shorter-barrelled rifles typically configured for suppressors.
The agreement with the U.S. Army covers multiple chamberings, including .50-calibre and below. Federal Ammunition said the technology is also being evaluated by several allied European countries.
“This is a historic agreement between the United States military and Federal Ammunition,” said CEO and President Jason Vanderbrink. “As a 104-year-old American company, it further demonstrates our unwavering commitment to innovation.”
“As the world’s most prominent manufacturer of small-caliber ammunition, I am particularly proud of the speed at which our team can develop a product with a purposeful application that improves the advanced systems our brave American warfighters use in the field of battle,” said Vanderbrink.
