The drills covered the full weapons chain, including bomb assembly, preparation, loading onto the F-35 aircraft and release against designated targets. Specialists from Fighter Wing Skrydstrup trained alongside the pilots to ensure the munitions were correctly prepared and ready for use.
Joint Terminal Attack Controllers on the ground played a central role in the training. The specially trained soldiers identified and designated targets before coordinating the strikes with the F-35 pilots.
The controllers act as the operational link between ground forces and pilots when air-delivered fire support is required. Their participation allowed aircrews and ground personnel to practise the coordination needed to employ precision weapons effectively.
F-35 pilots regularly practise weapons employment in simulators, but the Danish Armed Forces said live munitions provide a different form of practical experience. The latest training period has now concluded.
