By Defence Industry Europe

The U.S. State Department has approved a potential Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Denmark, which includes Precision Guidance Kits (PGKs) manufactured by Northrop Grumman and associated logistical support. The deal, valued at an estimated USD 85 million, was formally notified to Congress by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA).

The Danish government has requested to purchase up to 5,832 M1156 Precision Guidance Kits. These kits are designed to enhance the accuracy of conventional artillery rounds, transforming them into precision-guided munitions. The proposed package also includes ancillary items such as compatibility testing, firing tables, technical assistance, technical data, and new equipment training, ensuring comprehensive support for Denmark’s armed forces.

This sale aligns with U.S. foreign policy and national security objectives by bolstering the defence capabilities of Denmark. By enhancing Denmark’s precision strike capabilities, the sale aims to support political stability and economic progress in Europe. According to the DSCA, Denmark will have no difficulty integrating these new systems into its military operations, which will significantly improve its ability to address both current and future threats.

“The proposed sale will increase the first strike accuracy of Denmark’s brigades, providing a critical boost to their military effectiveness,” the DSCA stated. Despite the enhancements, the sale is not expected to alter the fundamental military balance in the region.
