Under the contract, EPI will produce CCRTs exclusively for Airbus Defence and Space, with the collaboration covering assembly processes, including the integration of 300 fabricated parts, 16,000 fasteners, and thorough testing for centre of gravity and leakage. This project supports EPI’s strategic transition towards assembling sub-systems for major aerospace programmes, facilitating significant knowledge transfer and reinforcing EDGE’s dedication to Industry 4.0 practices and sustainable economic growth.
Michael Deshaies, CEO of EPI, stated, “Our partnership with Airbus Defence and Space to produce CCRT is a testament to our commitment to excellence and innovation. This collaboration is in alignment with EDGE’s ongoing effort to localise advanced technology and industrial capabilities, reinforcing the UAE’s position as a leading competitive industrial base in various sectors.”
Jean-Brice Dumont, Head of Air Power at Airbus Defence and Space, commented, “This strategic partnership with EPI on the C295 reinforces our commitment to the UAE’s aerospace sector, aligning closely with the nation’s long-term vision for economic diversification and innovation.” Airbus views this collaboration as a stepping stone for future projects, including potential UAE participation in the development of the A400M strategic transport aircraft.
The CCRT tank, co-developed by Airbus and EPI, is designed for multi-functional applications such as Ground Refuelling (GR), Extended Range (ER) missions, and Air-to-Air Refuelling (AAR) operations. The partnership not only strengthens the UAE’s defence and aviation capabilities but also lays the groundwork for extended cooperation in the UAE aerospace sector.
The contract signing took place at EPI’s facility within the Tawazun Industrial Park, coinciding with a ceremonial event to celebrate the delivery of a completed C295 Cargo Compartment Removable Tank.
