EDGE signs $2.45 billion deal with Kuwait for advanced FALAJ 3 missile ships

By Defence Industry Europe

EDGE Group has signed a defence contract worth AED 9 billion (USD 2.45 billion) with the Kuwait Ministry of Defence. The agreement is the largest naval shipbuilding export in the region and one of the highest-value naval export deals worldwide.

EDGE will act as the prime contractor, overseeing the design, construction, trials, and delivery of the 62-metre FALAJ 3-class missile ships. The contract also includes Integrated Logistics Support (ILS), In-Service Support (ISS), and ammunition supply for the vessels.

Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB), EDGE’s naval subsidiary and the UAE’s foremost shipbuilder, has been selected as the build subcontractor for the programme. This cooperation highlights EDGE’s full-spectrum capabilities in delivering advanced maritime defence solutions.

Hamad Al Marar, Managing Director and CEO of EDGE, stated: “This agreement with Kuwait is hugely significant both in scale and strategic importance. It deepens long-term defence ties between our nations, brings a proven class of advanced vessels into regional service, and reinforces EDGE’s position as a trusted international partner.”

He added: “It also reflects the pace of industrial and engineering progress we’ve achieved in just a few years, and our ability to design, build, and deliver complex naval platforms at scale. As we enter a new phase of export-led growth, this programme marks a clear signal of global confidence in what EDGE can deliver.”

The FALAJ 3-class vessels have also been selected by the UAE Navy, with the lead ship, ALTAF, officially commissioned into service in February 2025. Their operational deployment demonstrates their proven capability and performance in littoral defence roles.

The Kuwait-bound vessels will be customised to meet the country’s specific operational needs, featuring high performance, advanced combat systems, and enhanced coastal defence capabilities. This contract further solidifies EDGE’s role as a preferred provider of integrated defence solutions and supports the UAE’s broader goals for defence export growth and industrial cooperation.
