Elbit Systems Ltd., a leading Israeli defence company, has been awarded an $80 million contract by the Israel Ministry of Defence (IMOD) to develop and install advanced self-protection technology on the Israeli Air Force’s F-16I aircraft. This new suite aims to bolster the survivability of the fleet in increasingly complex and hostile operational environments.

The new Airborne Self-Protection Suite incorporates state-of-the-art Electronic Warfare (EW) technology and an advanced Electro-Optical (EO) Passive Missile Warning and Launch Detection System (PAWS). Together, these systems will provide the aircraft with enhanced detection and response capabilities against a wide range of aerial threats, ensuring improved safety for aircrews and their platforms.

Elbit Systems has built a strong reputation for delivering operationally proven defence solutions across multiple types of aircraft and helicopters. Its self-protection technology has gained significant global interest as countries prioritise the protection of their aerial platforms amid growing security challenges. In recent years, the company has secured numerous contracts from NATO and European nations, reflecting its standing in the defence sector.

“We are honoured to once again collaborate with the Israel Ministry of Defence and the Israeli Air Force,” said Oren Sabag, General Manager of Elbit Systems ISTAR & EW. “In today’s global landscape, safeguarding aerial platforms is crucial. Elbit Systems continues to lead the way in providing cutting-edge airborne defence solutions.”
