The MRSAM system, based on the Barak 8 air defence platform, is designed to counter a wide range of aerial threats, with an operational range of up to 70 kilometres. It includes a phased array radar, a command and control system, mobile launchers, and interceptors equipped with advanced sensors. The system is already in service with the Indian Navy, Army, and Air Force.
The contract is valued at approximately 29.6 billion rupees and is part of India’s “Made in India” initiative, which mandates local production as a key component of defence agreements. The Indian Ministry of Defence highlighted the deal as a significant step in enhancing the country’s defence capabilities. Reports estimate that it will generate approximately 350,000 workdays in India.
IAI’s subsidiary, Aerospace Services India (ASI), based in New Delhi, is managing the implementation of the contract on behalf of the Israeli side. Transactions under the agreement will be conducted in Indian currency, further integrating the project into the local economy.
