Exail announces first sale of DriX O-16 transoceanic uncrewed surface vessel

By Defence Industry

Exail has confirmed the first sale of its DriX O-16, a transoceanic Uncrewed Surface Vessel (USV) designed for long-range maritime operations. The vessel has been acquired by an Indo-Pacific customer working in the civil sector, marking a significant milestone for the company.

The DriX O-16 is equipped with advanced technologies, including a full-depth Multibeam Echosounder, enabling precise data collection for hydrographic, geophysical, and environmental missions. Its ability to deploy Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) and Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) enhances its operational flexibility and expands its mission capabilities.

Olivier Cervantes, Vice President of Maritime Autonomy Solutions at Exail, described the sale as a testament to the company’s innovative approach. “The DriX O-16 quickly set new benchmarks in efficiency, endurance, and flexibility, securing the customer’s confidence just three months after its christening,” he stated.

Designed to support the maritime industry’s shift towards autonomous and low-carbon solutions, the DriX O-16 offers a sustainable alternative to traditional crewed vessels. Its hybrid propulsion system and optimised architecture reduce fuel consumption and maintenance costs, helping operators lower their environmental impact.

The vessel’s enhanced autonomy enables extended port-to-port operations, reducing human exposure at sea and streamlining resource usage. By combining advanced technology with sustainability, the DriX O-16 aligns with the industry’s growing emphasis on efficient and eco-friendly solutions.

This sale represents a significant advancement in the adoption of Uncrewed Surface Vessel technology, setting a new standard for modern hydrographic, survey, and inspection operations. Exail’s DriX O-16 is poised to play a key role in shaping the future of maritime autonomy.
