Finland and Sweden partner with Senop for enhanced military optronics framework agreement

By Defence Industry Europe

Finnish defence company Senop Oy, in partnership with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) and the Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command, has announced a new framework agreement focused on military optronics procurement. This strategic agreement aims to streamline the acquisition of advanced combat-enhancing optronic technology for both Finland and Sweden, enhancing mutual defence resilience.

The agreement was formally signed on November 6, 2024, in Helsinki by prominent officials, including Brigadier General Tero Ylitalo, Chief of the Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command; Rebecca Ihrfors, Director of the Command and Information Systems Division at FMV; and Aki Korhonen, President of Senop Oy. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in Finnish-Swedish defence relations, providing “a fast and cost-effective way of acquiring combat-enhancing optronic capabilities for both countries.”

President of Senop Oy, Aki Korhonen, praised the framework agreement as a testament to the strengthening defence cooperation between Finland and Sweden. He highlighted that the arrangement “creates the conditions for the development of the countries’ defence forces’ closer interoperability and security of supply,” further supporting Senop’s ongoing efforts to innovate in high-technology solutions.

Earlier this year, Finland and Senop strengthened their partnership through a letter of intent to procure new night vision technology, including advanced night vision goggles. This recent framework agreement continues these efforts and reflects a broader commitment to enhancing defence capabilities, particularly through optronic systems that provide increased operational efficiency and cost savings.

As a subsidiary of Millog and part of the Patria Group, Senop Oy is known for producing high-performance night vision devices and integrated systems suited to the most challenging operational environments. With over 140 experts across four locations, Senop focuses on secure, critical communication solutions and advanced sensor technology to support situational awareness, firepower, and mobility for its defence and security clients.

The cooperation between Finland and Sweden in military optronics is part of a wider defence strategy, building on previous agreements that reinforce mutual security while sharing the financial and technological benefits of joint acquisitions.
