According to Airbus, the first MRTT for Canada is scheduled to enter operational service in 2027. In its final configuration, the aircraft will be equipped with underwing hose and drogue pods and a fuselage-mounted boom system, and will also be capable of medical evacuation missions.
Conversion work in Getafe is progressing on two A330s for Spain and the tenth MRTT for the Multinational Multi-Role Tanker Transport Fleet (MMF). Airbus currently has the capacity to deliver up to five aircraft per year, based on existing demand.
To date, Airbus has received orders for 84 A330 MRTTs. Most of these aircraft are produced by converting new A330-200s from the final assembly line in Toulouse.
