Hyundai Rotem delivers another batch of K2 tanks to Poland

By Defence Industry Europe

Earlier this week, the South Korean defence company Hyundai Rotem delivered another three K2 main battle tanks to Poland. This shipment increased the total number of K2 tanks in the Polish Armed Forces to 31.

According to the Polish defence procurement agency, Hyundai Rotem is expected to deliver another batch of tanks by the end of March. In August 2022, Poland signed a significant deal with South Korea for 180 K2 main battle tanks, valued at USD 3.37 billion. Under this contract, all 180 tanks are scheduled to be delivered to Poland by the end of 2025. The first batch of 10 tanks arrived in Poland in December 2022.

In 2022, Poland entered into a large framework agreement for up to 1,000 South Korean tanks. The Polish Ministry of National Defence intends to establish the production capacity to manufacture the remaining 820 K2PL tanks (a modified version of the K2) in Poland. However, the executive agreement for this has not yet been signed.

The South Korean government and Hyundai Rotem, the manufacturer of the K2 tanks, are intensifying their marketing efforts in Poland to persuade the Polish government to sign the new contract.
