The C-catcher is an evolution of IAI’s ELM-2022 radar, which has been deployed in 35 countries with over 1,000 units in service. The new system incorporates Gallium Nitride (GaN) Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) technology, improving performance and reliability while maintaining a compact design.
With multiple detection modes operating simultaneously, the C-catcher can conduct wide-area surveillance in real time. Its advanced digital processing and algorithms enhance the detection of small targets at high altitudes, even in challenging conditions such as rough sea states.
The radar also features Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and Inverse Synthetic Aperture Radar (ISAR) modes, which provide high-resolution imaging to improve target classification. It is available in both fixed and rotating configurations, making it suitable for installation on fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) platforms.
Dror Bar, Vice President of IAI and CEO of its subsidiary ELTA, stated that airborne surveillance radars are a key component of national security and defence. He highlighted that the C-catcher builds on IAI’s decades of operational experience in radar technology.
