Italian Foreign Minister calls for formation of EU armed forces

Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani expressed the need for the European Union to form its own combined armed forces, focusing on its role in peacekeeping and conflict prevention.

 

In an interview with La Stampa, Tajani, the leader of the Forza Italia party, underscored the necessity of strengthening European defense cooperation.

He argued that a unified European military is crucial to achieving an effective European foreign policy and safeguarding the citizens of EU nations amidst global challenges.

Tajani highlighted the importance of the EU’s presence in a world influenced by major powers such as the United States, China, India, and Russia, and in areas facing crises, from the Middle East to the Indo-Pacific region.
